What kills bed bugs?

Bed bugs are resilient pests that can be difficult to eliminate once they infest a home. However, two effective methods in killing bed bugs, are heat treatments and cold treatments. These two methods are often used to prevent bed bugs from infesting your home.

1. Heat Treatment

Heat is one of the most effective methods to kill bed bugs. Bed bugs die within minutes at 50°C (122°F), while eggs require 30 minutes at the same temperature to be terminated. Professional exterminators use specialized equipment to heat infested rooms to these temperatures for several hours.

2. Cold Treatment

Extreme cold can also kill bed bugs. Exposing bed bugs to temperatures below -18°C (0.4°F) for at least four days can effectively kill them. This method is useful for treating items that can be placed in a freezer. However, it is less practical for larger areas or items that cannot be easily moved.

Both heat and cold treatments are effective methods to prevent bed bugs from infesting your home. By placing your luggage in a Heatbag upon returning from a travel you can be sure that your luggage is bed bug free when unpacking. All objects that are heat-sensitive can instead be placed in the freezer to make sure your home stays clear of bed bugs and other pests.
